Audiovisual artist Claudia Robles designed an interactive art piece that responds and reflects a person’s emotional state through reading the participants skin moisture. The data is collected using a Galvanic Skin Response machine and transforms the data into sound and colors. The participant is surrounded by three large panels that adapt to the person’s physical responses; blue for calm, orange for stress, etc. I like this art piece because it translates physiological responses we wouldn’t normally use to gauge emotions instead of using language which could be contrived. I like that this piece uses technology to filter our emotions solely using physical features that cannot be controlled. This art piece could be used in a lot of different scenarios. I was curious about how each person is engaged while attached to the GSR machine and if they’re spoken to in order to get an emotional response, or if they’re told to be silent. I’m curious about what different topics could be discussed while someone is attached to the machine and if different questions/observations would incite different responses on the digital projection. This piece could incorporate environmental factors and might measure different responses to various environmental imagery or issues involving sustainability. This piece is really beautiful and I like how each person creates a different image depending on their state of mind.
